Shrek is a computer animated comedy film which targets children as its main audience. The film is based on William Steig’s 1990 book Shrek! The movie Shrek, released in the year 2001 and directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson is only one of the few computer animated films to win an academy award. The use of adult oriented jokes and themes combined with a straight forward fairytale story makes the film appealing to both children and adults. The films cast can only be described as marvelous. It starts mike Myers as the voice of Shrek, Cameron Diaz as the voice of Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy as the voice of Donkey. The film is about a green ogre named Shrek, who lives in a swamp. One day, he finds his home overrun by countless fairytale creatures. In order to get his swamp back Shrek is sent on an adventure to save a princess who is in trapped in a castle far, far away. Along his journey Shrek meets many characters and even becomes attached to a few. Shrek is feared by many due to his frightening appearance, but on the inside he is a nice and caring person who only wants peace and love.
Shrek is a large, scary, and ugly ogre, who lives in a swamp free of other people. One night, he suddenly finds that his land has become a refuge camp for fairy-tale creatures, who have been banished by the evil Lord Farquaad. Farquaad is the ruler of Duloc, who wants to rule a perfect kingdom. However, Farquaad cannot become the king of Duloc until he marries a princess. With the help of a magic mirror, Farquaad decides Princess Fiona would make the perfect bride. Before Fiona can become his bride, she has to be rescued from a castle which is guarded by an angry, strong, fearsome dragon. Unable to perform the rescue himself, Farquaad holds a fighting tournament to find a knight most suitable for this task. Just as the tournament begins, Shrek along with his new friend Donkey arrive to Duloc to complain about the swamp. Farquaad orders the knights to attack Shrek, but he easily defeats the knights. In exchange for the swamp Farquaad sends Shrek and Donkey on a mission to rescue Fiona. Being nearly killed by the dragon, Shrek and Donkey are able to rescue Fiona. However, Fiona was distressed to learn that her rescuer was not prince charming, but an ugly, smelly ogre. But, despite their difference, Shrek and Fiona grow fond of each other. One night Donkey discovers that Fiona is an ogress by night and a princess by day. Fiona explains that as a child she was cursed by a witch and the spell can only be broken by her true love’s first kiss. Shrek overhears the part where Fiona describes herself as a monster. But, Shrek thinks Fiona was taking about him and storms off. Shrek brings Fiona to Farquaad, hence obtains the swamp back. However, this does not bring him happiness. Releasing that his true happiness lies with Fiona, Shrek stops Farquaad from marrying Fiona. In the end, Shrek and Fiona end up getting married and live happily after.
This movie takes place around the kingdom of Duloc. Although no specific year is given, it is apparent from the costumes and structures that the movie is set during the medieval period. Since the movie is completely animated, perhaps the most difficult task faced by the directors was to make the characters look real and alive. This difficult task was accomplished by using state of the art computers and motion. All of the drawings are put into a computer program, where the characters are edited for a specific scene or action. Putting together all the scenes and editing all the little details can take years and cost million of dollars. With cost of seventy five million dollars and the labor of over two hundred seventy five people, Shrek took two years to finish.
The theme of the film Shrek was how one cannot judge a book by its cover and the meaning of true love. Although Shrek is feared by many due to his scary appearance, he is really nice and only wants a peaceful place where he can live. Shrek and Fiona are different as the moon and the sun. Shrek is grump, smelly, and dirty and Fiona is neat, clean, and organized. Despite their differences, they fall in love. True love is able to over come all obstacles and true love cannot be broken no matter how different the person.
The film Shrek made effective use of voices, plot, characters, and settings to make the movie interesting for both adults and children. Although the film is filled with comedy, it brings across many valuable life lessons. The film shows how one should not judge a book by its cover and what true love can accomplish. I would recommend this film to anyone with a sense of humor. It wil

I have a question about essay writing but using my own quotes?

Ok I’m writing an autobiographical narrative essay for school and I’m having a complete brain fart. In my essay I have several times put a sentence or two of my thoughts

“Just great another obstacle,” I think to myself.

Would using quotation marks like that work because I’m not saying anything about loud? Thanks for any info. I’ve been working on this essay for the past day and a half so a fresh brain would be appreciated!

Please read my essay on ‘A child called It’ and tell me ways to improve!?

please read this, and tell me how i can improve it. thank you so much for your time! (: – its for my A-level english lit. class.

David Pelzer is an American, award winning author, and also the survivor of the third worst case of child-abuse recorded. He wrote the bestseller novel, ‘A Child Called ‘It’’, which is a true story which reveals Pelzer’s tragic past, describing vividly his life from the age of four, full of torture and cruelty, until he was rescued at the age of twelve. There are three instalments of his incredible story, (‘The Lost Boy’ and ‘A Man Named Dave’), each unfolding the next stage in his remarkable journey, and explain to us how it made him the man he is today.
The first chapter of the book is titled ‘The Rescue’, this is about the day when David’s situation becomes more noticed, and the first step is taken to save Pelzer’s life. For many people, it is important that Pelzer began his story here – since the book has many difficult and vivid extracts, it will help he reader get through them, knowing that there is a safe end to the suffering he experiences.
After ‘The Rescue’ the readers are lead through the happy times of his life, when his parents were “the perfect parents” and how his family was ‘the Brady Bunch of the 1960’s”.
In the second and third chapters, we see a change in all of the main characters – David, his mother and his father. Pelzer describes each of the characters in fine detail, and consequently creates a very realistic character, which I can easily imagine. The obvious change in character is the change which happens in his mother, suddenly she becomes a cruel, abusive monster, Pelzer tells the reader that his relationship with his mother “drastically changed from discipline that developed into a kind of lifestyle that developed out of control.” The readers eventually find out that alcohol might have been the cause for some of the change in her, “Mom got up only to go to the bathroom, get another drink or heat leftover food.” The way Pelzer describes his mothers actions and personality, makes the reader have a strong hatred for the mother. The change in his mother clearly has visible affects on all of the characters. David – her victim transforms from a healthy, happy four year old, to a terrified and timid child, “By this time I had become afraid of Mom. Very afraid.” I think David Pelzer is very strong and brave emotionally. Some readers may forget that he is only 4 years old when this abuse started, and it lasted for most of his childhood. David figured out what he must do in order to survive, and he never gave up on it – something that some four year olds may give up on. “In order to survive, I could never give into her.” He was able to endure all of that torture and he didn’t turn out like his mother he used his past to become a better person. The reader automatically feels sorry for David, something that may have come naturally when we found started to hate his mother for her abusive ways.
A change we can see happening right through the book, is the gradual change of David’s father. We learn that his mother would only torture David when his father wasn’t there, “I loved it when Dad was home. It meant no beating, minor treatments or searches for missing things.” This makes the reader wonder about his father at this point in the book. Is his mother scared of him? Has he abused her, and she is merely taking it out on someone smaller? Maybe some of the readers feel sorry for his Mother when they wonder if she’s been abused, and start to have a dislike towards the father. These two new emotions may fade when we find out that David’s father is trying to help David, and that maybe he too, also become scared of the mother. However, when we see that he eventually gives up trying tot help David we may develop new dislike towards him, as a result there may be mixed emotions for the Father; pity and dislike.
He explains that he was the only one out of his brothers who got punished for the ‘crime’ they commit, this gives the readers the idea of how severe his mothers attitude towards Dave was – and just Dave. We can see that there is a change in David’s brothers. At first they probably felt confused as to why they weren’t the victims, and maybe they feel sorry for David, therefore try to make him feel included, “I would sit and wait for one of my brothers to come into our bedroom, and have him ask if David could come out now and play.” However, they may feel that they can’t be with him a lot of the time, as they would be scared that their mother’s torture would turn to themselves.
As the book progresses the abuse from his mother becomes worse, we witness the effects on David when he steals food in order to survive, and references ‘a box of graham crackers’ as his ‘prize’ – showing his desperation for food, as a result from the starvation he has experienced from his mother.
Since this book was written for a child’s point of view, many of the passages written may

Does anyone have tips for writing an essay on art and culture?

I’ve successfully written research papers in the past and I never really have trouble with the actual writing, (composition and grammar) but I have never formulated an essay (picked a topic, researched, defined and refined my subject, etc.) about art and culture before. For some reason, I’m struggling a bit, it just seems like such a huge, all-encompassing area.

Does anybody have tips for choosing a topic, or general essay writing suggestions?

ps. specific suggestions would be nice too. Here’s my idea:

Something about Freud, his theory of dream analysis and the unconscious mind, the Surrealist movement, it’s roots in Freud’s theory and in Dadaism

I’d also like to incorporate the Surrealists’ impact on society and culture, on art and philosophy, and potentially Heidegger and his theory of how "art lets truth originate" (it was all right around the same time…heidegger was a little later…)

Anyway, any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Please proof read my personal essay.?

I’m 15 years old, and still when I dangle my feet over the edge of my bed in the dark. I know that scary clammy hands will grab my ankles and drag me down to a dark hell or terror and death. This is never a conscious thought, but when my feet hangs over the edge of my mattress, a chill of fear crawls up my spine, and I quickly pull my wandering limbs back to safety.
I should have gotten over this childhood fear a long time ago, but this thought has been with me year after year.
Most of the time I would rather deal with monster under m bed than take on real life.
I am horribly shy; I have no real social skills or grace. Sometimes more than anything I wanted to be noticed as the pretty attractive outgoing girl I knew I was, instead of the shy girl who was glued to her only friends everyone saw. Being noticed was also my worst fear, because my shyness could lead me to another social disaster.
Over the first couple years of high school I try emerging from my shell. I start to love my individuality. How far can I push this self-expression? What if no one likes the real me? What if the don’t like the girl who has been hiding from her expression?
When I was young, I used to have these terrible dreams that Scar from the Lion King movie would chase me off a cliff into a stampede of antelopes. But my hero would fly in and rescue me in the nick of time. Now as a teenager, I am uneasy about what will happen after high school. Some people I know have a plan to know what the going to do and where they’re going. Right now it’s not Scar whose chasing my but my fear.
If you’re human, you fear will never go away. All I can do is learn how to face it. Maybe being human means having to dangle your feet over some edge, with a monster below. Maybe my hero would come and rescue me. Then again maybe not.
